Officiating
As the only legally Certified "Humanist Celebrant" in the Finger Lakes, (through The Humanist Society, an adjunct organization of the American Humanist Association) Barbara specializes in humanistic, inter-faith/inter-cultural, personalized wedding and commitment ceremonies. Even people who are theistic can relate to the common humanity expressed in humanistic, secular ceremonies. Her clients are as likely to be planning a destination wedding in the Finger Lakes as they are to be a resident of the area.
Barbara will talk with you about the traditions, elements, rituals, and people you want to include in your ceremony, and take the time to get to know you as a couple. She will lead the rehearsal and help the wedding party feel comfortable and confident in their roles. The result? A highly personalized ceremony you will remember for years to come.

The officiating fee for weddings and commitment ceremonies, including leading the rehearsal, is $325.00, with additional fees to cover transportation costs for events outside the Ithaca area. (Fees for other ceremonial events depend on the event.) Contact Barbara for more information.
Other Wedding/Commitment Ceremonies Services
Consultation. If you want to design the service yourself but simply need help crafting your ideas, identifying resources, or planning the flow, we can meet with you on an hourly basis to help you realize your vision. Our rate is $45.00 an hour.
Writing and design. If you prefer to leave
the final writing to someone else, we will thoughtfully incorporate
traditions, rituals, and symbols from your personal background and
history. We will work together until you are 100% satisfied.
The cost of this service is $175.00. This includes an initial
1 ½ to 2 hour meeting. Additional meetings are $45.00 an hour.
Speech and Toast Writing. Let us put words in your
mouth! If you or anyone involved in the ceremony will be
called upon to say a few words and don’t know what to say or how
to say it, we can help you write a speech or toast, uniquely suited
to the person being honored.
Event Planning. A ceremony is almost always part of a larger event. If you need help to plan or orchestrate the whole occasion, we offer those services, as well. Click here to read more about this set of services.
